Clickteam Fusion 3D has arrived and it has arrived in high poly style! Further to our previous post on the Clickteam Fusion 3D update, we now have a brand new demo and source code complete with MFA to play with! It’s a game called Neo Runout and it features you playing as a ball in an infinite runner along a plane with obstacles to avoid and it’s all set in 80’s neon-style graphics. A fully-fledged 3D game that is yet another showcase of what the Clickteam Firefly extensions for Fusion 2.5 can really do.
Fusion 3D Poly Counts
Just in case you were ever on the fence with what Clickteam Fusion 2.5’s 3D extensions Firefly could do, we see here a video uploaded to YouTube
As the video shows, the current poly count in that is 194,208 running at 45fps. It actually runs at a faster FPS than this, some were deducted for the video recording. Let us explain a few things. Whilst this is a great achievement to run so smoothly, you can actually have much higher poly counts than this. It just depends on a series of factors and you can optimise your resources before you pop them into Clickteam Fusion 2.5 for 3D development. With your 3D models for example, you can lower the polygon count yourself before exporting the model, you can trial and error with this but the more polygons you have, the more the engine has to render.
Keep your Clickteam Fusion 2.5 events optimised
The Clickteam Firefly extensions work alongside your events, so it’s still key to keep your events optimised. The examples shown and what you can download are whipped together in ungrouped events to show you the capabilities of the engine, which is very impressive for the first official 3D set of objects. However, you have to remember connected with the engine, it’s still the Clickteam Fusion 2.5 runtime and you should try to comment, group and keep your events as tidy as possible.
Firing a lot of ‘always’ events off will eventually impact performance, every project differs so it’s safe to say it won’t for a long time but if you are working on a serious development, treat the event sheet as you would with a 2D game and you will be just fine.
Using Clickteam Fusion 2.5 3D
Triadian and Chris here over at Clickteam HQ are working around-the-clock to keep bringing updates, news and even more showcases to the table for Clickteam Firefly. It’s been a very important journey for Chris and I have seen the dedication poured into this set of extensions. Documentation is currently being written and bundled up for the new Clickteam Library and Triadian is working around-the-clock on bugfixes, improvements and enhancements.
For the new 3D demo game, you can freely download and play this here.
